Citrine or Sunela Ratna (India) is a rare transparent, yellow variety of quartz that has been used as a gemstone since ancient times. Commercially available citrine is often produced by heating amethyst or smoky quartz. Natural citrine is pale yellow, with orange, green, or smoky hues and shows dichroism; while heat-treated amethyst is yellow-orange, orange-red or orange-brown. The color of citrine is due to presence of aluminum or iron oxide. The crystals are hexagonal with no cleavage and hardness of 7 on Mohs scale. It is popularly known as “merchant’s stone” or “money stone”, due to belief that it would lead to financial success and bring prosperity. It is linked to the Navel and Solar Plexus Chakras and promotes creativity, mental clarity, optimistic outlook, ability to make positive decisions and improve focus. Raw crystals are versatile elements that can be placed at the workplace; carried in the wallet, purse or pocket; or kept at a suitable place such as entrance of the house or display area to bring abundance and warmth. They can also be used in custom-made jewelry. However you use them, they will boost confidence and mental clarity.
