This microscopic view reveals two bands, green and white side-by-side. Various inclusions are seen in the green band perhaps resulting in the green band with stippled appearance. The white band is relatively smooth and silky due to microcrystalline quartz. Green Zebra Jasper, primarily silicon dioxide is a microcrystalline quartz. The characteristic green bands are formed due to impurities, mainly iron oxides and colored silica or other minerals. White bands are formed due to aggregates of tiny quartz crystals or chalcedony. The zebra pattern points to different stages of deposition or brecciation.
