Yemeni hakik cabochon against light
Yemeni Hakik (aqeeq, akik or aqiq) is a type of chalcedony stone with red, orange, brown or black hues resulting from the presence of iron oxides. Authentic natural hakik has a waxy to glassy luster and banding patterns of red, brown, and white color. It is a relatively hard stone that does not scratch easily with steel. Sometimes, specific “blood dots” or blood shots of hematite are evident within the stone’s matrix. A milky glow under light is used to identify Yemeni hakik. Yemeni hakik has religious importance in Islam and is associated with prophet Mohammed. It is also considered auspicious by the Hindus and other ancient cultures. It is well known for curing physical ailments and is believed to offer protection from negativity, stress and emotional imbalance. Yemeni hakik is believed to confer good fortune and prosperity.
