This is another captivating image of iolite pendant taken against a light source to reveal the internal detail of the gemstone. The stone is ordinarily opaque under illumination. However, when it is held against the light source, the different types of inclusions are clearly seen in an enlarged view. The otherwise glittering particles of hematite are now visible as red-orange hexagonal or polygonal plates with perfect geometry. Needle-like inclusions of iron oxide or rutile are also evident.
