Stichtite or Atlantisite (trade name) is a rare, vibrant pink-to-purple mineral typically combined with green serpentine. Chemically it is hydrated magnesium chromium carbonate. It displays a range of striking colors such as rose-pink, lilac, lavender, and deep magenta-purple, often mixed with green or black matrix host rocks. Stones with combination of purple stichtite and green serpentine from Tasmania is marketed under the trade name Atlantisite. With hardness of just 1.5 to 2.5 on the Mohs scale, it has a very soft texture and waxy or greasy luster with soapy touch. The crystal system is trigonal (forming as massive, platy, or fibrous aggregates rather than distinct single crystals). Deposits of this mineral are found in Tasmania, Australia, South Africa, Canada, with minor occurrences in Russia, Sweden and the Keonjhar district of Orissa in India. It is valued for artisanal carvings rather than faceted jewelry. For jewelry use, it is cut into smooth cabochons, carved into palm stones, or made into protected pendants. It is believed to promote emotional healing, compassion, forgiveness, and connection to the crown chakra.
