Royston Turquoise/Shajari Firoza

This stone holds a mosaic of the high desert, weaving sky-blue dreams into the deep, mossy shadows of the mountain's heart! It shows the typical dark grey/black patches, light tan/brown areas, and—most tellingly—distinctive yellowish-golden splashes or veins, characteristic of Turquoise from the Royston mine in Nevada. The vibrant green transitioning into lighter areas in this stone is a hallmark of the mine. The way the colors and matrix are distributed in large, irregular patches rather than fine spiderwebbing is very characteristic of many Royston specimens. The stone has a very heavy "Shajari" (matrixed) pattern with black, brown, and yellow-gold patches and could be Shajari Firoza, or more specifically Sabz (Green) Shajari Firoza. Because of the heavy "Shajari" (matrix), this stone is believed to be more grounding than clear blue turquoise. It helps the wearer stay calm and connected to reality during times of chaos. The green color is traditionally associated with the "Heart Chakra" and the energy of nature. It is thought to invite prosperity, personal growth, and the "flowering" of new ideas. Due to its unique "landscape" pattern, this type of cabochon is most often set in Sterling Silver. It is a favorite for large rings, "bolo" ties, and pendant necklaces. Because of the intricate patterns, many people use these stones as "scrying" or focus tools during meditation, tracing the veins of the matrix to quiet the mind. High-quality Royston or Shajari turquoise is highly collectible. As many mines close down, unique pieces with vibrant colors and complex matrices become more valuable over time.
